Seeing the world through mask eyes..
It's Monday night. I'm surrounded by spliffs, hot chocolate and music after a bloody good first day of Priority Week at school with our new teacher ¬(this term) Andre!! We're doing Larval Masks this week.
After studying masks and commedia last year at college with just the regular neutral masks, I was super duperly excited to try on these masks today.. and became even more excited when we saw them in the flesh. They are absolutely beautiful!! Peculiar, but beautiful!
I immediately wanted to put one on and just "do" masky things... how I underestimated it so! ¬ Neutral mask (after studying for a year) pretty simple... well, not exactly ¬ definitely could get much better .. but Neutral masks have nothing on Larval!!
For one, they're a lot heavier¬ creating more discomfort when worn.. won't complain though..
They're also much bigger and more restricting. I found the first one I wore completely stopped comfortable head movements and body movement!! I felt stuck in the mask as oposed to 'carrying' it.
After the first exercise I was frustrated immensly.. ¬ felt completely shit and just wanted to try again..
Anywho,.... after the break we worked on them more, I used a different mask and enjoyed it a lot more.. Think I understood how to wear them, look through the tiny eye-holes and move afterwards!
Bring on the rest of the week
